What is Omega 3?
Omega 3s are “good fats” that the body requires. More specifically they are types
of polyunsaturated fatty acids that cannot be made in the body and must be obtained
through a healthy, balanced diet. Because of this they are described as
Essential Fatty Acids.
The richest source of Omega 3s is oily fish, which is why the government recommends
everyone should have 2 portions of oily fish a week.
DHA and EPA
Two of the most important Omega 3 fatty acids are EPA and DHA. There
has been growing research on their beneficial effect on children’s learning, concentration,
as well as heart health and joints in adults and infant development.
